PLUMBER
Basic plumbing systems such as pipes, sewers, drainage systems were in use in Mesopotamia as early as 2900 B.C.E. Romans constructed their first stone-lined aqueducts around 300 B.C.E. Around 100 C.E. Roman’s plumbing systems used lead piping to supply public bath houses or fountains with water, and to discharge waste through drainage into a river down the stream. The Latin word for led is plumbum and the person who worked with led was called a plumbarius. Over the centuries the word plumbarius transformed into the modern word plumber.
WATERBURY, CT
The settlement of the Town Plot area of Waterbury, CT dates back to 1674. The abbreviated Algonquin name for the area was “Mattatuck” which meant “a place without trees”. In 1686 this area that also included parts of Middlebury, Naugatuck, Plymouth, Prospect, Thomaston, Watertown, and Wolcott was admitted as the 28th town of the Connecticut colony. The name was changed to Waterbury due to the many streams flowing into the Naugatuck River. Waterbury earned its nickname “Brass City” during the first half of the 20th when it was the brass manufacturing capital of the United States.
